Ironhaven – By Misa Buckley

Ironhaven by Misa Buckley is OUT NOW!!!!

Available @ Decadent Publishing

I am happy to welcome author Misa Buckley for a guest blog about her latest release, Ironhaven. Read what she says about being an accidental author…

“…Being an aspiring author, I always dreamt of having my name on a book cover. I’d float along the shelves of science fiction in Borders and wonder how it’d feel to see my name alongside Adams, Hunt and Astimov. Hey, when I dream, I dream BIG.

The thing is, no amount of dreaming actually prepares you for getting That Email.

Okay, let’s rewind a little. In January of this year, I decided to get serious. I determined that I would be published by the end of the year. In February, I stumbled over a submission call from Samhain Publishing. They wanted apocalyptic romances for an anthology. As it happened, I had a half-written story about a colonised planet facing destructive and all I needed was to rework the premise, write and edit it. By the end of the month.

Shockingly, I managed it. I say shockingly because up until that point, I’d not finished a single project. I edited it, sent it off to betas. Polished and preened, then sent it off. It was rejected, but I’m actually not bothered by rejections – my reaction was make some enquires on Twitter about publishers that might be after a 22K apocalyptic romance. Sara Brooks put me onto Decadent Publishing. I read their submission guidelines, edited the MS accordingly and sent it off.

April 27th I got an email. Coming just twelve days after my submission, I didn’t even read it at first. Until a part of my brain suddenly wondered why a rejection came with attachments. That’ll have been because it wasn’t a rejection. And just like that, I wasn’t an aspiring author any more.”

IRONHAVEN released July 29th and is available from Decadent Publishing, Amazon and other ebook retailers.

Earth is dying, and Lucian Hoyt is going to die with it thanks to his parents cancelling his pass aboard the last shuttle off the planet.

There is hope, though – a brilliant inventor has come up with a plan to build a ship to evacuate those who’ve been left behind.

That inventor turns out to be Genevieve Scott, Lucian’s bitter ex-fiancée. If they’re going to work together to get off this planet, they need to put their past aside, but even melting the ice between them can’t erase all the scars.

  2. Have you got more WIP you intend on submitting after your first success? How difficult was it for you to edit and get Ironhaven in to shape for submission (was there teeth gnashing or were you fairly confident of the shape it was in)?

    • Hi Liz 🙂

Yes, I have a lot of WIPs at the moment. One is due for publication early next year. So I’m definitely keeping on writing and submitting 😉

Ironhaven went to beta before I sent it in. But a tendancy to edit as I go along meant there wasn’t much to correct. My editor at Decadent made mention of how clean the MS was, which was a nice thing to read!
